Privacy
SpacePings is built to need as little about you as possible. This page describes, in plain language, exactly what the app collects and why — it matches what we've declared to Apple in the app's privacy manifest.
Your location
To tell you when a satellite will pass overhead, SpacePings needs to know roughly where "overhead" is. Your device sends its coordinates to our server so it can run the orbital math for your sky. On our side, that location is only ever used to key an anonymous, shared cache bucket covering a wide area (roughly 50 kilometers) — it is not linked to your account, and we don't build a location history tied to you.
Your account
Signing in uses Sign in with Apple. We receive an account identifier (not necessarily your real email — Apple can hide it for you) so we can keep your saved locations, alert preferences, and history in sync across your devices. This identifier is linked to your account, used only to run the app.
Push notifications
So we can send you an alert at the right second, we store your device's notification token, linked to your account. It is used for exactly one purpose: delivering the pass alerts you signed up for.
Sighting confirmations
When you tap "I saw it" or "I missed it" after an alert, and optionally rate how bright it was, we store that response linked to your account and to the specific pass. This is the data that lets us improve our visibility predictions over time — it stays inside the app's own functionality and is never sold or shared for advertising.
What we don't do
SpacePings has no tracking, no advertising SDKs, and no third-party analytics bundled into the app. We don't sell or share your data with advertisers. The only outside services involved are Open-Meteo, which receives an anonymous coordinate (no account information attached) to check cloud cover, and Supabase, the database and authentication infrastructure that stores the account data described above on our behalf — it is our infrastructure provider, not a tracker or an analytics tool.
Deleting your data
Email stackcurious@gmail.com anytime and we'll delete your account and every piece of data linked to it.
Changes to this policy
If what we collect or why ever changes, we'll update this page and the effective date above.
